bots

Postby Dan~ » Fri Nov 27, 2020 10:08 am

what's going on?
I see so many bots tonight and recently.
Trying to sell porn.
They don't get passed the system,
but i have to delete / disapprove their posts.

I hope this doesn't continue.

This happens at regular intervals, probably when the bots learn how to bypass anti-spam settings.

Message Carleas, and he’ll reconfigure sign-up settings to resolve the spam-bots, in one fell swoop,
so no need to block individually, as they’ll get removed collectively.

Well, if you click on Carleas you get this: Last visited: Thu Nov 19, 2020 2:36 pm.

Days and days can go by between visits.

What does that mean? Obviously, you'd have to be inside his head to understand the reasons. It could be circumstances. It could commitment to the site.

His last substantive thread was this one: https://www.ilovephilosophy.com/viewtop ... 0#p2777810

ILP is now basically commanded by the yak yak yak social media crowd. They flood the threads with chit chat about any number of things. Even on the philosophy board.

I wish You were back as mod, though, for it would take loads of work off his shoulders.

One line at a time.

Though, admittedly, he doesn't charge us for it.

No, I think I am more credible because on threads such as these...

Given that, I'll put my own credibility up against yours anytime.

I've updated the spambot tests, and I'll nuke the ones that got through. As Mags said, it's something that happens from time to time, but the tests do a good job most of the time.

The former. 8 months of lockdown with work from home plus two young kids at home plus just being in a super shitty place mentally because of all of it. I actually think you're a bit generous calling that my "last substantive thread", I'd say it was this one from about a month earlier.

But with luck, the skies will be clearing. I'm making some changes at home that should free up some time and headspace.
