its weird that you dont understand that eliminating cash bail is a good thing. i mean this debate has been going on for a long time all over the place. republicans dont like it because they tend to favor the carceral state for a variety of reasons not the least of which involves them making big $ alongside companies like corecivic and geo group. you should see what kay ivey is trying to pull in alabama right now. doj made al dept of corrections sign a consent decree after finding that our prisons are unconstitutional. alabama failed to live up to that decree. now alabama bureau of corrections is being sued by doj. they are supposed to staff the prisons and release non violent offenders who qualify for parole. alabama only grants parole in about 5% of cases. they also categorize all kinds of things as "violent" even if no one was hurt. you can violently break a window, and now because your crime is violent you wont get parole.

why would alabama dept of corrections along with rep gov kay ivey go to such lengths to exacerbate unconstitutional conditions in our prisons?

to show that the only way to solve the problem is to spend 3 billion in taxpayer money to build 3 new megaprisons, which will then be contracted to corecivic so that they can be managed for a profit.
