they only cancelled 2 shows ever. 1 when they were on tour with guns n roses and a riot broke out, and one in atlanta where hetfield hurt his back on a jet ski and couldn't perform during the summer sanitarium tour. i was at that 2nd one. so it was kid rock, (with the midget), korn, powerman 5000, system of a down and metallica...minus hetfield. so instead of just not coming on, they mixed up different band members and did a long crazy set. like the midget sang for whom the bell tolls, the dude from system of a down did master of puppets, they got some guy from the crowd who said he could sing one song, told him if he fucked it up they'd throw him off stage, he fucked it up and they physically threw him into the air and off the stage. it went on for hours and ended up on some vh1 top 100 concerts of all time list of some shit. that same night i got kicked off the marta (rail transit) in atlanta like miles from my hotel because i fell asleep on it. then i got a taxi and ended up getting kicked out of the taxi and to this day i have no idea what my friends did to piss off that taxi driver but he threw us out on the side of a highway. we walked to a waffle house and paid a waffle house manager to drive us around to these different marta parking lots looking for a car we could not find, and then eventually got back to the hotel after giving up on finding that car.

when i got back to the hotel, the manager some indian dude started yelling at me that i had to pay for some porn that was charged to the room but i hadn't even been in the room. one of our friends was wasted and left the show early and was passed out in there and i asked him about it and he said he'd been asleep the whole time. so i go downstairs and scream at and threaten the hotel manager to leave me the fuck alone and tell him that the proper thing to do would be to settle this shit at check out and not 4 in the fucking morning.

so then i raid the continental breakfast and take all these donuts and fruit and shit up to the room and long story short we trashed the fuck out the place and someone took a shit between the mattresses and my friend who worked at la quinta hotels who got us the discounted rates on all these rooms was fired.

was july of 2000. they did a thing where you could get free tickets to come back and see them do another show but that was a period of my life where i was wild as fuck and so i didn't make it to that
