I've now accepted that I need to make a little trip to home depot. But you need to tell me what I need to get.

You're tryna build a floating shelf. Here's whatcha do. Don't use that little piece.. it'll look stupid. Instead, use a piece of 1x10 or whatever that is that's the same length as that 1x4 in the wall. Then, you're gonna buy or make little angled support pieces underneath like in the pic. But they have to be on a stud when you fasten them.

Those support pieces gotta be small or else you'll hit your head on em when you're on the couch. Really that's a fucked up spot for a shelf. You gotta move that couch.

Don't change my whole setup man.

Why can't I just use the left half that's not over the couch?

I don't care if it looks stupid, it already kinda looks stupid. Space economy is the main factor here.

My feng shui is tight, I make a little tiny space feel spacious and inviting.

I guess it boils down to the supports. I get a nice piece of wood that is not small and silly like the one I have but not big and all-encompassing like the one you suggest, somewhere in the middle. Then I place it on top of the wood plank there which is already screwed onto studs. Then what do I do, how do I make the supports?

That's exactly what you do. Then buy three little ornamental support pieces to go under it. Dont use big screws or you'll split the wood (unless you pilot the holes... which you ain't gonna do).

Or, as Tyler Durden might suggest, just stack the books up on the floor. That's what I do. 8)

You're not Tyler Durden. You're Dwight from The Office.

Had to Google it. Saw the movie rendition [office space] but not the boob tube series.

Okay, maybe, but better him than this guy: https://series.youtu.be/DkVRL2po0Y8

Oh, yeah...

Doing this "thing" with prom. Smart move. This way he is far less likely to hold you in contempt as I do. Though sure that's based only on my own "exchanges" with you.

Pedro I Rengel is not responsible for what he is, and to him I giveth neither blame nor praise, for I believe not in freewill.

Pedro I Rengel is just another manifestation of the immutable laws of nature.

Ok whatever go fuck yourself.
