Today's people are very fearful people. This is also the main motive in this case: people are afraid that their website will not be found and feel like someone who disappears into infinite vastness of the universe.

Why set up a shop on a loney road? WHy not set it up in a motorway where is can be seen?
If you do well enough then you can get money from Youtube, but attracting advertisers to your loney website is very difficult.
Youtube has the infrastructure.
Patreon can get rewards more quickly, but its harder to attract subscribers as Patreon is pretty poor at promoting its patrons.

I am not convinced it's so difficult that it makes the Youtube option a better option.
If you have a great content, finding your audience shouldn't be too difficult.
But YouTube is seductive, like many other "we make it wasy for you" schemes, so people don't even try.
