A lot of people don’t remember this song youtube.com/watch?v=spt1zvbezyE . In fact, 2 years after it came out in 2007, already nobody remembered it. But I did, I marked it carefuly. It was the turning point, the day a song came out that took the balls out from under regueton, allowing people who had previously been offended by its violence but secretly were moved by its rhythm to fully indulge. In my own classroom, all the so-called “sifrinas,” or what we might call “too good for you” upper class girls, suddenly were openly listening to and proclaiming their love for a regueton song.
It was downhill from there, I already knew the second I saw those girls playing the song in recess. Suddenly, about half or more of the hits were of that style. And then, well.
