Breakdancing can be impressive but it can never be dancing. It is a form of athletics that mostly revolves around headspinning, handspinning and backspinning. There’s more to it than that, I guess, but most of it is just plain stupid (robot moves are just plain stupid.)
It’s just a bunch of annoying, noisy, men pretending to be dancing when in fact they are just performing martial arts moves. (I’d like to see martial arts moves in the context of dancing but so far I’ve never seen it done well.)
True story… I was coming out of my hotel in Birmingham City Centre (close to The Bullring) in October last year, and they were having a dance-off with some local dude on the pavement right outside my hotel, but everyone stopped and started dawdling and shuffling around instead of continuing to dance, so I didn’t get to see it, sadly. I was too shy and busy with thoughts of going to Wagamama for brunch, to go and fan over them, but at least I have the tale to tell. The clip starting at 4.52 makes me wish I could pop and lock, but at least I can krump and freestyle.
