Not terrible, not great. Some questionables (holes) regarding the layout of the plot. 6/10

=D> My hat’s off to the French for their take on passion…amazing! 8.5/10 Not a musical rendition.

Masterminds (7.5/10) You will laugh, resistance is futile.

Twisted Seduction (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0QUwSlqKsak&t=213s)
A great, low-budget independent thriller 8.5/10. Their budget was $30,000 and they made every penny count.

The Loved Ones (2012) Now this is a horror movie! 9/10

Captain Fantastic (2016) 7/10 Male romanticism/extremism on display, more sad than not.

The Lobster 0/10 A grim memory to be shortly forgotten. Walked out to end the torture.

Into The Forest (2015) Someone got paid for writing this script and actors chose to be in it…LOLZ! 1/10 for sheer comedic idiocy.

The Girl With All The Gifts (2016) 7.5/10 A different take on the zombie phenomena that was quite enjoyable.

The Survivalist [ 7.5/10 ] Could be our futures at the rate we are going.

Some indie art movies:

Manifesto. An artfully done overview of different contemporary art viewpoints. This movie is a visual treat. Good acting too. 8.5/10

The Square. Another art-related indie film. This one is a social satire, essentially pointing at people’s/society’s hypocrisy. (What happened to the square?) This movie is a little bit longer and less streamlined (plot-wise), so a bit of patience is needed, but it has a number of well-done ironic scenes, some of which are subtle (as with street beggars) and some quite powerful, as the noted “jungle” scene with Terry Notary. Okay for one time viewing. 6/10

Goodbye Christoper Robin.

IN-SHADOW (2017).

A Jungian-based short animated film about the collective shadow aspect of the West. Well-done and quite relevant.

Quotes from the maker’s website:

You made it through the entire 13 minutes, Pandabear? Tried to watch it, only made it two minutes in.

Young Ones [7/10] A sci-fi western with some star power that was better than expected.

Okay, this one has better music…same theme, though. (and only ~5 minutes)

Much better Pandabear…made it all the way through.

What Happened to Monday - a dystopian sci-fi movie. It’s pretty solid. I can recommend it, especially to the fans of the genre. The focus is on the story, so don’t expect flashy CGI.

I must say I’ve been disappointed with most of the movies I’ve been waiting to see in 2017 (most of which are indie movies), so I sort of gave up on checking out any of the upcoming movies for 2018. But then I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Germans actually made a movie about the Otzi the Iceman. In the movie, he is portrayed as the “good guy” seeking revenge against the “bad guys”, but of course, in reality we can’t dismiss the possibility that Otzi himself was the “bad guy” who was running away from revenge seekers. Or maybe good/bad was a tenuous distinction back then anyway, in that there were no “good” people back then, only people/clans with differing interests and needs.
(Oh, Otzi, whatever horrrible things you might have done in your life, you’ll always be the “good” guy to us!)
