BrasscheckTV Report
A few years ago, Google which runs
ads on our site - it’s how we pay the
bills - deactivated our all our ads
(and thus our income) based on a
technical problem on a SINGLE page.
No warning. No “Hey, there’s a problem
that needs you attention.”
At that point, we’d been doing business
with them for five years and had produced
thousands of videos and video pages.
We were compelled to go through all
of our videos - thousands of them -
to make sure there were no other
problems in order to restore our
account. An enormous task that took
several weeks.
We hired a bunch of people to help
us. Some we knew well, some we
didn’t.
We recently discovered that one of the
people we hired who presented himself
as a “big Brasscheck fan” was actually
a saboteur.
He deactivated HUNDREDS of our
pages including many of our original
productions.
The good news is that we didn’t
give him the ability to delete pages
- just to take them offline.
Further good news, we can ID his
handiwork. (When you have over 8,000
pages, it’s easy for even a few hundred
to get lost in the shuffle.)
Even more good news is that we’re
in the process of restoring these
page to online so they can be seen
again and have put 200 back online.
Interesting…
Most of the pages he took offline
were detailed critiques of abuses
and corruption in Homeland Security
and law enforcement especially
as it applies to their treatment
of demonstrators and travelers.
Who is guy actually was we don’t know.
The email and telephone number he
gave us no longer work.
We do know he claimed to live in Washington DC
and the phone number he gave us did have
DC area code. (In retrospect that should
have been a clue!)
This act of sabotage not only deprived lots
of people of important information over
the years - our pages are linked to from thousands
of articles all over the Internet - it also must
have cost us thousands of dollars in lost revenue.
But in this case, all’s well that ends well.
We’ve caught the problem, we’re fixing it, and
hundreds of important Brasscheck videos are getting
back online.
…Like this one we produced in 2011:
