ILP Legends

Can you ask him if he would mind posting his conclusion in our Debate, please?

Thanks Tab, glad to hear he’s still in the game. Has he employed his Psych degree yet? Tell him B.Ed’s where it’s at (as you well know)

Wow. Thanks all for the ILP background check. Keep it comin’!!

Not true, I saw Rafa a few months ago, and even Smooth. I’m rather pissed off that I never get mentioned in these things, it seems it time for me to wreck havoc in the philosophy and social science sections.

Tab, when are we playing chess? I challenge, you take white.

I had an interresting encounter with a Dr.Satanical when first I arrived… strange dude… he kicked my ass pretty good too when I tried arguing with him… So I decided to stick around here and see if I couldn’t learn a thing or two. My first lesson was learning HOW to argue… But even after I picked that up I was still getting my ass handed to me… So my second lesson was to learn how (and more importantly WHEN) to listen (or read as it were).

Had a few choice encounters with Someoneisatthedoor and Xunzian back then that made me want to stick around…
I hated Xun… We almost always agree, but he’s better at making “our” case so when he shows up I feel like I ought to shut up and go away. Though, he sometimes leaves me the scraps off his table… that bastard. :stuck_out_tongue:

And of course Uccisore… my former arch nemesis. Over the years he’s earned my respect, despite his theism, and that makes our exchanges allot less entertaining :stuck_out_tongue:

And of course… the ever diplomatic Carleas needs to be mentioned!

Ben and Will, obviously. Imp too. Shyster is a very good call. Psyque was mental, but provided a lot of entertainment. I never ‘got’ Dunamis, really, but people seemed very impressed. Detrop caused the single most interesting thing ever to happen on ILP ever.

?

I dunno. Smears, Faust, Sauwelios, RU/UR, Satyr, Itlog. I’d say Oughtist, but your posts are a bit plain.

A bit? Come on, they’re plain as day!!

I know you can write really interesting stuff, but posts like this

are all too rare from you, IMO.

Faust has been bringing the funny since I first signed up.

I remember whitelotus. Any time I tried to engage him, even if I agreed, he would explain to me why I was a moron and had a way of sounding right. Probably relied on the fact that on some level we are always a little wrong, such is the nature of philosophy, so his technique was fail safe. The technique itself was merely interesting; the spectacle lied in how he had the brains to back it up, and was cold, curt and heartless and never broke character no matter who tried to disarm him. A guy you loved to hate – fans could thank him for his consistency. One of the great “legends” of ILP.

Another lesser demon of ILP lore: iron dog who seemed to type in a crazed monotone of self-righteousness. He was truly retarded, but eery in his confidence, again with the impenetrable consistency that elevates one to character status.

Another classic idiot worth noting PoR or Pinnacle of Reason. A consistently outspoken and aggressive dogmatist with a low iq.

There was a very persistent and annoyingly polite guy named Bob who liked to defend religion and “spirituality,” with very paltry argument, he fulfilled that role for a long while.

There was a deeply depressed and seemingly suicidal chick names Kristalyn who would post hopeless, dark poems, several a day. Never broke character. That’s all she did.

FYI the name was detrop, not de trope.

The colorful menagerie of characters was interesting at the time, surely they’ve been replaced by new ones, but these were from the 2003-2005 era, an era I’m grateful to have seen with my own eyes.

Bob still checks in everysooften… I like Bob a lot, he’s especially attuned to holding fellow-believers accountable for their quasi-righteous claims, and is much wiser in that regard than than poor flabby-atheist I.

His version of funny, but I think like a wart it’s growing on me now I have the bone out of my arse.

Glad to see people are talking about people they really couldn’t stand, but in an odd way kinda miss. It’s so often the case that you don’t know what you’ve got until they leave or are banned. There is nothing worse than a forum without characters and to me the only time you should ignore them is if they spend all their time just bitching at you and not saying anything about the subject. Hell I love a perfectly crafted insult but, man let’s get back on course.

Not sure if I have the right to post here on this thread, being a noob, but having said that, I’ve been here long enough to pass off a half baked notion or two. And most of them certainly are.

Moonoq always cracked me up with his simple insults.

Gamer could tell a story and was always an interesting read.

Gate Control Theory was someone I just always felt like siding with because he was down to earth and rational.

White Lotus was a pain in the ass but extraordinarily intriguing.

James No. 2. The only ILPer I ever met in person.

By the time I arrived Ben was already just kind of on the sidelines. I think he was really only involved in the forums as a poster very early on.

Detrops personal life was addictive.

Many others, but I’d have to do a little research to remember them all.

I think it was Monooq, not Moonoq. Been a while.

I concur on the others, Concordance, and you were a legend as well. Hermes the Thrice Great, also a legend.

But how about that Gamer? Surely he was a legend, as well. Wonder where he is now?

Seen him around at all, Picardy?

No I haven’t seen anyone around. I haven’t been on this board for quite some time.

I do remember Gamer and Arendt having an interesting conversation. He wrote some poems that Ben liked. He was weak on philosophy but he could fling words rather well. Gamer got on my nerves after awhile but qualifies as a legend.

The name pragmatist comes to mind, don’t remember why he is a legend, I just remember that he is. I remember him being excellent as a post to bounce ideas off of, ofcourse, without him realizing it.

Anyone care to fill this void of information for me?

When I first got here I was innocently dragged into the great 2006 or 2007 cabal dustup. All players other than myself qualified as legends vs legends. I must admit all were fantastic during the fight. Wheeeww the dust really flew on that one quite the spectacle, very educational.
