Do posts ever get deleted by angry mods?

I heard from Mechanical Monster that his post was deleted. Have any moderators ever deleted any posts of others? Is it possible that some of my posts have been deleted? Are we notified if it happens? I ask because I notice my signature has been edited a couple of times. It was just a link to my forum that they removed, but I don’t know the rules or to what extent the writing here is secured.

Mods, this is not meant as a provocation. The internet is written in ink until someone pulls the plug.

Just a guess Jacob, but i don’t think anything gets deleted by mods getting angry, they probbly have to get mad, for that to hsppen, but i can only hazard a guess, since i have never been a mod.

In an ideal world, no. Mods may delete posts for a few reasons, including accidental double-posting, clear spamming, explicit imagery or similarly flagrantly disruptive posts when caught early, or posts where a user has “edited” their own post to remove all content. But removing posts for anger or spite would always be inappropriate.

Thanks, yes, I’d think so.

After someone had edited my signature I got a bit worried and set out on the work of saving all my posts to my harddisk. That takes a long time and I am not nearly finished. I do not write on this forum as in a chatbox but as one would write a manuscript, like I imagine many posters here. In any case it’s good to know that it ideally won’t get deleted… :sunglasses:

The old forums I was on they deleted posts when the mod was losing a debate, then left his side of the argument. Why I left.

Carleas,

Out of curiosity, are all moderator actions (deleting/editing/moving posts, moving/locking threads, banning users) logged somehow so that you know what was done and by whom?

I told you to do that long ago. You are currently only getting an inkling as to why.

I second that question.

Jakob/Atheris, yes… everything is logged.

I removed the link to your site in your signature… if Carleas says otherwise that’s fine.

Thanks Magsj,
I’lll wait until it’s authorized to have it back permanently before I post again.
You can reach me at (edited: my forum).

Jakob, I haven’t seen your site, so I will ask you to use your better judgement (e.g. don’t link to porn, don’t link to WOW gold farming, don’t link to malware); you’re an upstanding member of the community and if you think it’s appropriate I see no reason you shouldn’t be able to link to it in your signature.

As for saving posts, ILP has every post back almost to its humble(r) beginnings, and as long as I run things I will do my best to keep them available. I would like to give users an easy way to pull all their posts, but the software we use doesn’t easily support that, and I don’t know if our server could handle the load it could create. For now, post deletions are as rare as they can be while maintaining some semblance of decorum on the site.

By the way, Jakob, I edited one of your posts just now because the formatting was bonkers. Make sure that I fixed it correctly, I tried to figure out which words were being attributed to who but there was a lot going on.

Okay, thanks for the response.

Probably would have been helpful to Jakob if you had sent him a message when you edited his sig. I imagine it would be kind of weird if a post of mine or my signature got edited without any notice.

It’s time someone looked into UCC the thug.
