MAGA - Three Years On

A point about politics today:

Back when the race wasn’t decided between Trump and Clinton, Sawelios made an interesting comment in another venue. He suggested that it would be better if Hillary won, as then philosophers would be able to highjack and use her as an instrument. He was suggesting that her vast pliability and sensitivity to trending opinions was in that way an advantage.

Two years on, Trump won the presidency and has shown to be anything but pliable to the court of trending opinion. Man knows what he wants and will do what it takes (though the hate towards an actual human running the White House has had severe reprecussions and placed severe restrictions on him, such as energetically pursuing the North Korea raprochement and, most critically, making a western ally of Russia while also making a western point of interest of China’s, and to a lesser extent Iran’s hegemonic aspirations). Trump could have been a very elegant return to Kissinger, and widely still is, but robotic moralistic evil such as Clinton represents has prevented it.

However, just as Trump marches on into greatness and the long term history books, another victory has occured. In a way, this robotic trend-sensitive hegemony did win. It has established itself in the ruling classes in a way that social activists 20 or even 10 years ago could not have imagined. In a way, the window for Sawelios’s philosophical political strategy remains open. Philosophers, if they should choose to make an instrument out of a hollow leading ideology, to control it and thus really the world, can still do it.
