GW Bush - the voice of reason

Postby phyllo » Mon Feb 27, 2017 7:57 pm

Former president George W. Bush rarely weighs in on current political events, but on Monday, he offered some of his most pointed critiques of President Donald Trump’s statements and policies in an interview with NBC News’ “Today” show.

Asked about Trump’s claim that the media is the “enemy of the people,” Bush warned that an independent press is essential to democracy and that denouncing the press at home makes it difficult for the United States to preach democratic values abroad.

“I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy,” Bush said. “We need an independent media to hold people like me to account.

“Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse power, whether it be here or elsewhere,” he added.

You can't give anyone credit for the ideas that they express. Sad.

The Media shouldn't be choosing sides. Trump didn't say that the Media wasn't independent, merely highly biased. And they have made it pretty obvious that he was/is right.

Yeah, right Peter. The left thought it was counter-culture fighting against the establishment who were against gay marriage, etc. etc. But then the left became the establishment and the left still thought/think of themselves as counter-culture. Simultaneously, the establishment players are still the same and lefties like you support them, but at the same time pretend you don't, as Phyllo's observation illustrates (though I doubt that was the intention).

I believe a position in the village just opened for you...

Peter just, ignored the main content of the post, to save his ego, then made a glib remark concerning the trivial content at the end of the post.

Because for Peter, its all about ego, looking good on the forums and feeling good about yourself, not actually making the world a better place.

I am quite aware of what I did and why?

I don't need to bolster my ego with lies about who I am...

I find that searching for the truth takes all my time...
and in the eyes of many, I am the village idiot because I am
not interested in what is so important to other people like
fame and fortune and being good looking... I am a checker in
a supermarket..... by no means a glamorous job which pays
jack, but, the hours allow me to read and write and think about
what is important... that search for what is important does make
me a village idiot because the village doesn't care or notice what
is important.... you are concerned with being right, I am concerned,
not with being right, but in finding the truth.... and that does make
me the village idiot for not following the crowd and not listening
to others and just being me........ I don't need to be anyone else...
I don't need to impress anyone or dazzle anyone or justify myself to
anyone else... unlike the young who need to impress and dazzle or
justify themselves to others... being the village idiot means
I am not following the herd instinct, to use Nietzsche's words....
and I am ok with that..... but thanks for allowing me to point this out....

His whole point was that you were just following the crowd, like a typical leftist. Leftist are the establishment, they aren't a counterculture.

Bullshit. You constantly pretend to be the profound philosopher on this site. Even this reply is an act on your part.

I love how Nixon was whitewashed during the W admin. Then Reagan got whitewashed during the Obama admin. Now it's back to W.

History repeats itself.
