There is a big movement currently for California to secede from the rest of the United States.

This would give foreign illegals and liberals (Marxists) of California the chance to have their own independent open borders ministate. (Perhaps Peter could move over there if they achieve success in their secession. )

Should California be allowed to secede from the United States?

Texas is more likely to go than CA. But the new Godwannabe isn’t going to allow either.

There is no Constitutional basis or procedural method in the Constitution to go about it, but California is beginning to go about it legally, which is circumspect and possible: to have it listed in the California election, if it passes, to have 2/3 of Congress pass it, after which submit it to all the states and have 2/3 of their legislatures approve it. Although chances are slim, the only other way for a Calexit would be to institute open rebellion.

However, if Trump plays tit for tat with California, the most populous and ecenomically important state, then it is certain, that regional and national interests will collide, and fuel will certainly be added to the fire to promote secession. This is uncharted territory, and the outcome of the only precedent, the Civil War, does not bode well for such an effort. However, Trump’s illness consisting of severe Narcisdisistic Oersonality, at one point yesterday proclaiming that he is more an important billionaire than those personages who founded major US industries, don’t bode well either, for some of the latter reside in California, having enormous political and economic power, world wide themselves. If Trump continues to step on those toes, he may find himself in big trouble across the board, where his now government sponsored gains of his own capital holdings may be on the line. In which case, and only for that case, he may reconsider.

K: umm, I live in California and have done so for over 40 years and there

1 in 3 Californians support secession according to the data we have. It’s more than I would have thought, too.

K: I talk to over 200 people a day in my job and no one has ever talked about it…
it not in the local papers or talked about on the new cast or by people on the street…

we are just not interested…

That’s nice. Nevertheless, the polling shows that 1/3 support it. It’d be cool if CA voted to leave the United States, AND voted to become a sanctuary state. Then we could all just go to California, get up to all the crime we want, and the cities wouldn’t tell the California feds we were there!

What would it take for a state to even contemplate secession? It would have to feel either existentially threatened, or else forced into an impossible moral commitment.
If a state so large and populous were pushed to that extremity, what would it cost to hold it back by force?
The last time this happened, the cost in lives, in suffering, in material, in ecological damage and economic setbacks was horrendous, and the rift has never healed.
Do you really want to go through that again - and again, and again?

I really can’t see California even truly thinking about it no matter what the polls say. That is a whole lot of work for people that seem to be predominantly laid back and easy going.

If the opportunity arose, why not? All the liberals, illegal foreigners, and jihadist Muslims could make a Californian utopia, right?

…Peering into a crystal ball…

In the year 2019 California finally secedes from the United States. It becomes the democratic socialist government of California. The first president of California is Hillary Clinton. The vice president of California is Michael Moore. San Francisco becomes the capital city of the Californian state.

How laid-back can you be, when soldiers are dragging your neighbours - or worse, your employees! - into the street and loading them in cattle-cars?
Some peoples have managed to keep their equanimity in that circumstance; others have not.
It only depends on the level of provocation.

Why would you import heads of state when there is so much local talent?
There is also the possibility of regional alliances or a confederacy of western states.
