the danger of being secure

I have heard that the recent Muslim ban was designed to keep
us safe, but is being safe really the goal we need?

those who promote security, do so over our need for freedom…
those who say, we must be safe… how exactly do you propose
to keep us safe? and from whom are we keeping safe from?

I have often said, that the greatest danger this country faces is not the
threat of Islamic terrorism but the radical right wing of this country…
how are we to keep safe from them?

OK, thought experiment, imagine yourself as safe as possible…
what do you have to give up to be that safe? well, you have to give up
the internet because terrorist can create plans over the internet and we
certainly don’t want them to create their plans to our safe and secure existence…

we have to give up any type of travel because if we can travel, terrorist can travel
and cause possible damage to America…

we would have no problem with the government listening to us at all times
because how can you trust the guy next door not to convert to radical islam
and attack me? you can’t, so the government must listen in to all conversations
to make sure we aren’t being converted to radical Islam…

we cannot have any “meetings” because who knows what might happen
if we gather two or more people together, they either become target or
they might be plotting some nefarious scheme to attack America…

all media is run by the government and only officially sanctions
shows, music, films approved by the government can be shown
on our TV or our computers or listened to… so we don’t have
shows like 24 or spy shows because that could give people the means
to avoid detection by the government…

the only way we could be totally safe is if we let the
government run our life, from birth to death and morning to night…
because if we can’t trust our government who can we trust, right?

so no unauthorized communication is allowed, so this means
all conversations over the phone, cell, text, e-mail and computer is
watched by the government… because any one of us could be
plotting an attack on America… you just don’t know who…

now one might say, I have nothing to hide from the government,
perhaps but have something to lose and that is your freedom…
for the only way to be completely safe is to surrender our freedoms
to the government… you cannot do anything without approval from
the government because hay, you might be lying about what you are doing
unless you are being watched by the government…

big brother is really for your protection to keep you safe from
Islamic terrorist who might be around the next tree, just waiting for
us to drop our guard and attack us…

those who demand security over freedom are really asking for
a big brother state to stand and watch over us…

as for me, I would rather risk an attack or even several to
keep my freedoms…

“those who promoted security over freedom wind up with neither”
so said a certain American named Ben…

Kropotkin

I can pretty clearly identify what I give for the safety that comes with being forced to buy health insurance. I can pretty clearly identify what I give up for the safety of more gun control, but what the fuck am I giving up by strangers from Yemen not being able to come here?

You’re giving up the ability to enjoy people walking the streets, and saying “Yimini, this guy’s also a Yemeni.”

Oh you mean like the same Yemen as this 13th century depiction of a slave market?

Or you mean the Yemen that achieved greatness by banning slavery in 1962? Or you mean the Yemen where slavery is still happening today? Right. Now.

At least we feel enriched… or something.

I question the authenticity of this document. In Islam, it is forbidden, or sacrilegious, to depict human beings in visual representation, as that implies worship of idols.

At any rate, Yemiyani (as they were called in the 13th century) would rather trade blonde Caucasian women taken prisoner in Hungary and Bulgaria in the Balkan wars, in the slave trade, not Black workers.

Right. Take a closer look as to who has the bonds on in that depiction.

Wow … pussy ass liberals preaching courage …

Yet another Trump accomplishment. :handgestures-thumbupright:

James, you’re better than this.

Well, even a great white knight has to take a piss now and then.

…where better…

So far, this was his personal best, as far as I can remember.

Short, presumptuous memories are one of the many symptoms of the day.

No kidding. Emphasis on presumptuous.

Wow. Two people called me “sumptuous”. In one day. In one thread.

That’s a personal best for me.
