Cheerleaders

Pat yourselves on the back here. Give your team a name (progressive, conservative, it doesn’t matter) and puff yourself up and feel GOOD about yourself. You deserve it!

Don’t forget rule #1: just keep repeating the same thing over and over again. Some dipshit will actually believe you at some point. You don’t actually have to make any sense, you can ignore all responses (intelligent or otherwise) and lying through your teeth is allowed.

Three views already! I’m not sure, but I think before this post I had only visited this thread twice! OMG, this could be big!

I am disappoint. I be hoping for a commentary on cheerleaders… Or pictures of cheerleaders…

Join my team and I’ll send you photos, with commentary.

I won’t really, but what’s an empty promise or three?

Is it getting to you anon?

I’m not sure I would want to join a team that would have me as a member.

We feel bad about ourselves, the rest of you don’t get it, and that’s why we’re better than you. Rah!

Idiocy? Yeah.

Quoting Marx? I never thought I’d see the day.

Today’s secret word is clock.

Maybe watch this movie, the whole thing. It’ll make you feel better about people in general.

The subject heading brought to mind that segment from Steinbeck’s Travels with Charley, in the spring of 1960, when he goes to New Orleans and observes the Cheerleaders, a group of southern white mothers who would get together each morning at Franz Elementary School to shout hate messages full of filthy language at the black children going to school escorted by US marshals. Quoting Steinbeck, the mothers hurled “bestial and filthy and degenerate” words at “the littlest Negro girl you ever saw.” The actual words, however, were cut by the publisher, Viking Press, for fear of lawsuits… but Steinbeck makes the scene vivid anyway, being the great writer that he was.

Even when he stopped at the gas station just across the Louisiana border, he meets racism when the attendants think Charley is a Black man. Yes, racism is truly nuts.

Not that those protests didn’t happen… but you have to take books with a grain of salt.

Smears, what movie is that? I haven’t clicked on it yet.

Jonquil, you’re an artist . Nice touch.

Phyllo, I actually started a thread here once on that topic. I think I called it “John Steinbeck, Noble Liar?”. Something like that. It’s in the link in my signature, to all my OP’s.

Idiocracy. It’s amazing.

Oh! I remember laughing. It was a while ago though. I should try it again.

Definitely. It’s one of the all time greats.
