The meaning of 'un'

Postby 1mpious » Wed Jan 04, 2017 11:19 pm

Simple:

If y = 'un' x then compared to x it is the opposite.

Not the opposite of, but rather the lack of.

Why not un-post it.
My thoughts | My art | My music | My poetry

I don't care about income inequality, I care about the idea that there are people who have actual obstacles to success.

...we hear about the wage gap, the idea that women are paid significantly less than men--seventy two cents on the dollar--that's absolute shear nonesense--it is absolute nonesense--in 147 out of 150 of the biggest cities in America, women make 8% more money than men do in their peer group. That wage gap is growing, not shrinking.

We're in a situation now where students can go to university and come out dumber than when they went in. They are infantalized by safe space and trigger warning culture, the idea that interogating a new idea, coming into contact with a school of thought or a person that doesn't conform to your prejudices is somehow problematic, that it gives rise to trauma.

No, Is P vs Not P would be opposites, as well as lack. You can't presume a larger logical schema isn't present in his mathematics, but simultaneously can't rule it out if it seems applicable to known systems.

Wish ignorant mods would stop being in a rush to move posts, your not the know it all winners you think you are just like James isn't the mathematician he thinks he is. He is obviously experimenting with something akin.

Define opposite.

I could say you are the opposite of fashion but I'd be lying. You have a yellow x which has some fashionable qualities to it.

I don't think that "opposite of" and "lack of" are necessarily contradictions in terms.

If something is [un]diluted, as in not drinking watered-down beer, lol, that beer does "lack" something - the water.
At the same time, watered-down beer can be considered to be the opposite of pure beer. #-It all depends on how we view things and the degree of such things.

I suppose that "un" can also describe or point to something or someone, the nature of which has changed.
How I love words and prefixes lol but gathering in their meaning can be akin to pulling a wisdom tooth. But with the former we may become the wiser.
“How can a bird that is born for joy
Sit in a cage and sing?”
― William Blake

“Little Fly
Thy summers play,
My thoughtless hand
Has brush'd away.

Am not I
A fly like thee?
Or art not thou
A man like me?

For I dance
And drink & sing:
Till some blind hand
Shall brush my wing.

If thought is life
And strength & breath:
And the want
Of thought is death;

Then am I
A happy fly,
If I live,
Or if I die”
― William Blake, Songs of Innocence and of Experience

“No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.”

Rather:

If y = 'un' x then compared to x, y is the opposite.
