I don’t know why there isn’t a general film thread. I wanted to post this somewhere but had no place for it.

Ill discuss other films later.

My favourite films are

Terminator 2
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Back to the Future (best watched back to back)

and many others.

Best female lead of all time is undisputed, compared to this performance hardly any female character is worthy of being called female.

Must have had to do with something. But this ain’t a thread for politics, nor philosophy, just film.

Film techniques required to produce an objective thrill were abandoned in the late 40’s and redevised in the late 70s.

An infantile objectivity of being taken with something, an assumption, an emotional demand.
Come here in this strange deranging place.

Between the two ages of frenetic film there was this

Now lets look at one of the worlds most talented directors.

Doodlebug (1997)- Christopher Nolan Short Film [HD]

This psychological short-film has gained cult following, especially given the heights which Nolan’s now climbed since making it.
The film concerns a grungy man, in a filthy apartment. He is anxious and paranoid, trying to kill a small bug-like creature that is scurrying on the floor. It is revealed that the bug resembles a miniature version of himself. He squashes the bug with his shoe. However, every movement the “doodlebug” makes is later matched by the man himself, and he is later squashed by a larger version of himself.

Doodlebug est un court-métrage britannique de 3 minutes, dépourvu de dialogue et filmé en noir et blanc. Il a été réalisé par Christopher Nolan en 1997.
look at the pornographic focus on the grind of the contrast in this filthy 16 mm
no interest in humans. Just in shots, sequences. This guy should remake Citizen Kane.

Angels with Filthy Souls is a gangster film which shown within the Home Alone Universe, which was made specifically for the film. A sequel to this film called “Angels with Even Filthier Souls” appears in the Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The main character of the film is called Johnny. After being left home alone by his family, Kevin finds a videotape of “Angels with Filthy Souls” and is seen watching it while eating a huge bowl of ice cream.

Johnny, a gangster at an office, is met by Snakes, a gangster sent by the head gangster, Acey. Snakes asks for money Johnny owed for “the stuff”. Johnny said, “Too bad Acey ain’t in charge no more” and implies he’s not about to give Snakes any money. Snakes shows discomfort when Johnny says that Acey is upstairs taking a bath, and almost immediately, Johnny pulls out his Tommy gun. Johnny tells Snakes to get out before he counts to ten. However, Johnny cuts the count short, counting to two, then jumping straight to ten (“One, two…TEN!”), and, while laughing maniacally, shoots rapid bullets at Snakes, killing him. Johnny stares at the corpse and says, “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!”. Kevin then paused the video and shouted for his mom, which seemed so loud that she heard him scream that she realized she forgot him!

To thwart the burglars, Kevin plays the home video of Angels with Filthy Souls to trick them into thinking there are armed, dangerous adults in his house. He also uses video to trick a pizza delivery guy to make sure that an adult was ordering the pizza.

The title is likely a reference to the 1938 film Angels with Dirty Faces. There is also a sequel to the film, Angels with Even Filthier Souls, in this film’s sequel, which aids Kevin as well.

This documentary includes a history of Spielbergs film making as rooted in the military career of his father, with a lot of footage from his early creations and inventions.

Bill & Ted Face the Music Announcement

Is this really necessary?

No it is not!

Interstellar still stands as the top science fiction film ever made.

Stanley Kubrick, who is his own standard, excluded.

Prometheus, with the Alien background, is still more interesting to me.

Ridley Scott has one thing ahead of these titanic geniuses of Kubrick and Nolan (who actually manages some of Kurbicks objective splendour), namely the humility before greatness even as he produces it. Why you have to go to an English society to find some good Shakespeare actors.

Nolan and Kubrick are cold, scientific, powerful, Ridley Scott as well as Tony are scientific but warm blooded, and rather than directly in your face with the power they are sweeping you along with it. They stand more in awe of the powers of cinema, there not entirely acting as its master.
Tony Scott is therefore the Antitarantino which is why True Romance works so magically, like Twin Peaks happened between David Lynch and Mark Frost.

Crimson Tide produced classic music, this theme, Roll Tide, I just had a new stereo when that soundtrack was released. I was in the basement and I heard later that the house had been shaking up to the fifth story, and I played it quite often then, smoking weed. Anyway, Gladiator has some very nice themes too. Thats not just the composer, who is the strongest in the world, this composer is looking at the edited scenes as he works.
It is said music is the wings of film, but first it is the other way around.

One of a kind movie which is actually very good science fiction, even to the point of becoming maybe relevant.

Yeah, but in the end strange movie does describe it.

Strange.

That last kiss is even stranger than the romance in The Matrix. Odd.

I hadn’t thought of Prometheus. You are right of course. The Jodorowski wing of Cinema. The Auteurs or whatever were maybe too plain to extract anything meaningful from Jodorowski. Scott just went straight for the dude who designed the weird temples. Alien 1 and 2 thus also, and I guess 3?, be recognized as candidates for that title.

Interstellar and Prometheus were equally orgasmic in different ways. The end of Prometheus is the cinemayest cinema can get. Maybe him and Tarantino are antitheses, but I think they are fans of movies in much the same way.

Ever see The Duelist?

Kubrick lurks there, hiding.

Riddley Scott was later filmed complaining that they wouldn’t let him just hire two actual swordsmen and was forced to hire two A-listers with no concept of martial arts. That is probably the moment he forked on the road from Kubrick.

The other brother was also not bad. At all. He maybe hit a dead-end, culture wasn’t offering him depthy enough depths to plunge his camera into. But this is certainly a good movie. A very good movie.

Made one of the top-5 best film noirs ever made, at a time people said film noir was no longer possible

Right, you threw me through a loop there because of Crimson Tide and True Romance. In a way, they are the same director, even with how very different and distinct they are. Ridley liked reading novels.
