classis new wave song

it was a cold day...I was sad today...i had nothing to do...so i thought about you...and then a friend said let's go for a walk...just to clear the air...and i thought about you...on the way down we stopped at your house...but you sent me away...what could i do...i couldn't believe all the things you say...you say it's the truth...you say it's the truth...clocks keep ticking...days keep passing

Then endless refrains of "without you"

i met my true love by the mouth of the river...we got through talking...and I thought I could love her...she gave me whiskey and i tried to forget...but i could not be free...i'm looking for the king of love...i left the country and came to the city...they tried to break me and i filled up with pity...though my spirir grew stronger...and the big world keeps turning...keeps turning...keeps turning...we could be free...you and me...if we could find the king of love...the king of love

this has got to be one of the most beautiful songs ever written...
here are the lyrics in full

oscar tio was a friend of mine
92 years old he sent me a valentine
oscar tio passed away a few years ago flat on his back
he never cried...he never sighed
and with his last departing breath
he said he had a mighty fine time

if i could make you see me through my eyes
we look at the [ ] the rest of our lives
if i could make you feel the way i do when i see you...

some people never laugh
some people never cry
most people go through all their lives you know lord they never, never even try

oscar tio was a friend of mine
92 years old he sent me a valentine
oscar tio passed away a few years ago flat on his back
he never cried...he never sighed
and with his last departing breath
he said he had a mighty fine time
He was like a man who wanted to change all; and could not; so burned with his impotence; and had only me, an infinitely small microcosm to convert or detest. John Fowles

this is one of those songs [like judy collins's the coming of the roads] in which the music and the lyrics are achingly in sync

don't let me down...down let me down...i know you won't see me...but don't let me down...the emptiness of a lonely room...don't let me down...from the darkened page...strangers [ ]...i know you won't see me...but don't let me down...i know you won't see me...but don't let me down

male vocalist .... less a song than an ethereal voice speaking over a recurring musical phrase

a couple of weeks ago i was downtown...i saw this amazing woman...our eyes locked together and i knew something was happening...by the time i parked my car though she was gone...i never could find her...a sad ending

or something like that.

i'm hurt but i'll recover...just don't take him for your lover...baby please dish the [fruit]...he's unoriginal from his head to toe...baby please dish the [fruit]...go take a walk...and with these wprds...make him feel small...you don't need him...baby please dish the [fruit]...

a beautiful song...it sounds like she's saying "rules"

rules...people laughing people crying people living...rules...foot steps echo softly down the hall...it's no one i know...rules...little harbors...little prisons...sanctuaries...rules...set in castles in apartments monastaries...we're all lonely sitting here inside...with nothing to do...it doesn't help to know it's all been tried...but maybe with you I'll try again...if i don't come out you'll say that i'm not free...we all have our prices we must pay...there must be something out there just for me...maybe i'll come out today

you're still keeping our love in chains...feel no pleasure feel no pain...we're still living our love in vain....the way you move...you give me so much more...i can see right through...through the living hell...we seem to waste our time...waste our time...you're still keeping our love in chains...feel no pleasure feel no pain...

try to imagine if this were a song called "young girls"

young boys...so pretty...never tired...always willing...disposable enough to feel no pity...young boys...make me shiver...just a touch makes them quiver...there's no taker...there's no giver...with young boys...young boys firm and cuddly...thin waist...they always hide me from their mommies...but that's the fun of young boys...young boys can be naughty...in ways that sicken you when they're forty...always curious 'cause boys will be boys...

there are one or two things you don't know about me...you love a little bit...but its never enough...write it all down in your book...but never take a second look...I know these things about you...i'm always outside...but that's not me...you think that's fine...but that's not me...there are one or two things you don't know...about me...you were always in love...but never with me...
