What's a movie that helps you deal with depression?

Postby shellytrokan » Mon Jul 18, 2016 2:51 am

What songs or movies help you when distressed?
For myself, songs include Stephenie Mills' All in how much we give, or R Kelly's The World's Greatest.

Movies include things like The Force Awakens, or Spectre, or The Conjuring.

Dark Knight, or Fight Club.

These movies are anti-society, anti-tyranny.

I respect both movies. Aaron Eckhart and Heath Ledger are what make The Dark Knight the movie that it is. Although I'm not sure it's anti-society.
What is it exactly you like about Dark Knight?

How are these movies not anti-society.

I like Dark Knight because joker is a troll, and I like movies that glorify trolls.

I asked because of The Dark Knight Rises, and its more or less obvious right wing agenda.
Have you ever seen Total Recall 2012?

No I didn't like the art style, so I never watched it. Too modernistic looking, lacked the 80's feel of the original.

Not all things are left or right wing agenda.

The Dark Knight Rises was pretty obvious. Total Recall remake is in my opinion better than the 80's film, because it amounts to more than a series of parts; the original is just a series of moments that are iconic, yet they don't have the power to sum up to any meaning. The remake on the other hand has an overall feeling of meaning. Kate Beckinsale really delivers the character of Lori Quaid, whereas Sharon Stone merely hints at such a character.
And Colin Farrell brings a better balance than Schwarzenegger.

I was hastily trying to pick 2 dvd's from a redbox and ended up getting silver linings playbook because I thought it would be funny because it had the guy from the hangover in it. Then I went back to my friend's place and watched it and was like...man....this is a serious movie about some fucked up shit. 2 crazy depressed people who hate the world ending up winning a dance contest together or something.

Gorgeous performances all around in that movie. It was very well done.

Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don't bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. No doubt. Not my usual shit. I prefer mindless, low brow comedy that doesn't ask much of the viewer. Think step brothers or talladega nights. But a great movie nonetheless.

I have to admit, I'm a fan of Will Ferrell's particular brand of ridiculous comedy, mostly because he commits so hard that even his over-acting comes across as quite genuine in a way that other famous over-actors (think Jim Carrey) fail to capture. Its all very charming in a ridiculous way. Interestingly enough, he's also quite good in more serious roles. Stranger Than Fiction and Everything Must Go come to mind, if you haven't seen them I'd recommend them both.
