If You're Listening To Music Right Now III

It would be great if you could write one or more lines on your thoughts or view on the tune in question, as to give an insight into why you are listening to it ‘right now’

I will be mostly listening to this

I really like this song.

I think it’s a song about resorting to escapism as a form of temporary relief, in hopes that it’ll give enough time to be saved. A song about resisting suicide. Also about using using alcohol as a means to overcome inhibitions to get closer to the ideal.

The opening words, ‘Party girls don’t get hurt’. A girl’s going out, getting drunk, living a dream - ‘A bird flying’, which temporarily stops the pain, ‘feel my tears as they dry’. She desperately seeks out escapes from the pain which she can’t resolve permanently, and all the while hopes someone can pull her out of shackles that strangle her. She begs the listener to help her, ‘Help me, I’m holding on for dear life’.

She doesn’t want to die, she wants to live. She’s a sinking ship, doing all in her power to stay afloat, clinging to the hope that she will be rescued.

It strikes me very powerfully. It’s life affirming. The will to overcome adversity - to fight the odds.

EDIT: Realized I had started typing a sentence and hadn’t finished the train of thought. Fixed.

Because it is about how all life are connected and how everything goes on within you and without you.

Life goes on within you and without you. However bad you may feel or however stuck you may be, life goes on within you and without you. No one can force one to change, they have to change on their own.

Show someone a door, they walk through it if they choose to.

Call me the gatekeeper, I am here to open and show doors, not force anyone through them who doesn’t want to be.

Another one about life and all that is. “Surrender to the void”
Tomorrow never knows, it’s similar to within you without you.

The meaning within, it is being. Listen to those lyrics. They aren’t just some long hair hippy talk, it’s what is.

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game “Existence” to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning

Totally a morning song, enjoy your coffee’s.
I like it because it’s peaceful, and totally reminds me of morning which is perfect for the title. xD

It’s pity this isn’t a proper piece. On the other hand, it might be a good thing that he left it at 30 seconds considering he’s a virtuoso and how bad these are at composing longer pieces.

But it’s such a decent dreamy sequence of chords . . .

The title says it all.

It’s a song railing against Christianity, which I’m partial to depending on mood.

Also, it rocks. It’s easy to put songs on like this to express ‘negative’ energy - pretend like it’s all X’s fault, and be like, ‘Fuck you, X!’

So that Xandria song Fight Me was really good even though symphonic/operatic metal style doesn’t usually appeal to me.

Atheris, can we agree that Steven Wilson always does interesting work? I particularly like DEFORM TO FORM A STAR.

Psychedelic muziks.

Janis Joplin, You’d better find somebody to love.

fuse yes, we can agree. I can’t say I’m a fan of everything he does, but he has a lot of quality art to offer. Most of all I enjoy his guitar work and lyrics.

Lyrics:

Run through forests
On a hot Summer day
Trying to break down
Walls of numbing pain

Give me the freedom to destroy
Give me radioactive toy

Taste the water
From a stream of running death
Eat the apple
And cough a dying breath

Give me the freedom to destroy
Give me radioactive toy

Feel the sun
Burning through your black skin
Pour me into a hole
Inform my next of kin

Give me the freedom to destroy
Give me radioactive toy

Run through graveyards
On a dusty winter day
Spit the dirt out
And try to say

Give me the freedom to destroy
Give me radioactive toy

The song’s pleading for people to stop everything that’s bad in the eyes of God, and to embrace Jesus/God - they’ll set you free.

When I listen to it, I translate it in my head to - bad = shallow, and God = truth / meaning.

If I do this, then I can really appreciate and get behind the sentiment / emotion of the song.

What’s interesting is the lines like the following:

“And for a small donation she could have the Lord Almighty”

“Visa or Mastercard, our operators are waiting”

“Now a word from our sponsor then another troubled teen”

Which hints at an underlying dissatisfaction with preachers using God for profit.

Sick tune from a sick movie.

We are escalator walkers
in the brand-new temple
Came to reshape identities
Shed our skins
Be reborn and feel the same
Feel the same: that no one here is real

We are moving standees
in the shrine of choices
Incarcerated between floors
of hope and disappointment
We feel the same
Feel the same: no one here is real
We feel the same
Feel the same: that nothing here is still

We are stairway drifters
made of cyber paper
Google boys and Wiki girls
Children of the self-care
We come to pray every single training day
Looking for a chance to survive
Buying reduced price illusions
Floating into another light
Melting into another lonely crowd

We feel the same
Feel the same: that no one here is real
We feel the same
Feel the same: that nothing here is still

Used to have our love
And now - Disposable needs
Used to have our souls
And now - Refined new skins
Take - Use - Throw away - Forget

Dragging our feet
Tired and deceived
Slowly moving on
Bracing shaky legs
against all those wasted years
We roll the boulders of sins
up a hill of new days
Up - Up a hill of new days

In the arms of the setting sun,
our burdens cast shadows over fiery ground
Catching final rays
We try to reach the journey’s end
before the sun will die
We sense we’re almost there, (We sense we’re almost there)
but the night comes too soon (The night comes to soon)
And we crawl in the dark, (We crawl in the dark - x2)
not ready to face up (Not ready to face up)
to unknowing lies (To unknowing lies)
We ache to go back (Ache to go back - x2)

But we can’t stop,
So we walk ahead

Walk ahead
