I never got to finish my Oz Music thread on ILO before it died so I’ll finish it off here.
One of the reasons I chose to move up to this little hippie/surfie town on the coast was because of the great music scene. There’s only 5,000 residents here but it holds some of the biggest concerts in the country and there’s always good bands passing through.
A couple of month ago, they held the annual Blues and Roots Festival – a 5 day Woodstock-style music festival – that headlined David Still & Nash, Donovan, John Foggerty (Credence Clearwater Revival), Canned Heat, Roger Daltrey (The Who), Earth Wind & Fire, Yes, Bo Diddley and heaps of old black blues artists. Just recently, they held a 3-day music festival focused on Australian indie artists. These are some of my faves.
ELECTRONIC DYSTOPIAN SOUNDSCAPE (MELANCHOLIC / EPIC)
This dude is half of Dead Can Dance (with Lisa Gerrard - Gladiator fame). He’s now in his mid 60’s.
If Frank Sinatra was an acid-dropping socialist, I think he’d sound like this.
You must have had my favorite Aussie group (OK, the only one I know) in Australian Music One. Hope it’s OK to post this moldy oldy here. If not, let me know and I’ll take it down:
No I didn’t. I think someone else posted it on ILO just to piss me off
Anyway, you can post whatever you like where you like but I’m posting more indie (slightly less commercial) stuff most people outside Oz may not have heard.
Since you posted Men At Work, I might post some of the lead singers solo stuff – he’s a Scottish Australian (not a real one) – but I like his stuff anyway
Colin Hay’s “Beautiful World” is a favorite of the one’s I’ve listened to so far. But there are lots of good sounds on these posts. I also liked Brendan Perry and Matt Corby a lot. The two Ruben songs I listened to had a great sound. Sorry. I just sampled a few songs from each performer, but you’ve got a lot of good performers here. I’ll be glad to hear more as possible.
Hey Samm. My apologies for the delayed response (I only can pop back every so often) but I’m glad you like some of them. I’ll post some more as I get time and since ILO has vanished from the face of the earth (the sister site of this one), I won’t worry if I’ve posted some tracks previously.
