I never listened to any modern British singers save David Grey or Sting, but hey, if your going to get a Sphincter Ring, might as go for the real thing, should make potty time very interesting.

Didn't realize just how revealing the fashion was in the English Summer. Must be El Nino. Gonna go put on two pairs of underwear now, still quite puritanical here in the states.

You can probably make one of cafepress. I made a shirt that says, "money hos and clothes". The first time I wore it, I was just walking across the street here to get a pack of smokes from the bar, and a hot chick wanted to take a pic with me because of it. So I let her, then I didn't strike up a conversation or anything. I just left. Leave them hos wondering and what have you.

The Greek word ìáñãáñéôçò meaning "pearl" itself is a borrowing from the Old Persian marga-reta "bird like", originally refering to the shell which contained the pearl, which resembles the wings of a bird folded over each other! Marga is "bird" (c.f. New Persian morgh "bird") and reta was a relative suffix.

See: Ferdinand Justi "Iranisches Namenbuch" and C. Bartholomae "Altiranisches Woerterbuch".
-- khodadad 1/22/2006

The only information I could find for "marga" was that it was an Indo-Iranian word meaning 'meadow' and a Sanskrit word meaning 'path.' (ie. The margas of Indian philosophy) Don't know if that's useful or not, but there you are. I'd love it if the derivation came from 'bird-like' but I couldn't find any other info about that.
-- earthnut 6/3/2007

"Ultimately from Greek margarîtçs, 'pearl,' probably of Iranian origin."

From The American Heritage Dictionary, 4th ed., under the entry for "margarite":
The Iranian word was marjan, originally meaning 'pearl,' though the modern word means 'coral'.

From A. Mingana, "On the Meaning of the Persian Word for Pearl and Coral." Man, Vol. 25, Mar., 1925 (Mar., 1925), pp. 41-42:
Marjan is also a feminine Iranian name in its own right.

I just read that "Marga" ("pearl" = "margarites" in Greek, as you said) is (probably) a Persian word with the meaning "child of the light", coming from the notion of the pearl as a dewdrop (pearl of dew) which changes in the moonlight.

So I started a Caribbean Conservatives group back in March last year, and I mentioned it to one of our party's MEPs at our party conference in October who instantly asked to come on board and now he accepted my offer to be a Patron when I asked him this month, and now a few Caribbeans who have been in politics for a long while tried to steal my whole pie/Founder status - would I do that to anyone? would I fuck! I foresaw this happening and it did.
If they never had the thought to start the group, then they are in no position to want to get in the driving seat, and the fact that they have no inkling whatsoever on how to utilise working with the other Government offices drives the fact home even more - the overseas Caribbean politician delegate events and campaign days our party HQ has been laying on must have made them see green.

The main schemer said no white people or non-group instigated events should be allowed :shock: I offered her a Patronage position, but she has yet to accept it, but she saw the error of her group-stealing attempt ways and turned nice.. too nice?

A guy who created our first event in November is now calling himself a Co-founder, even though he was reluctant to even retweet the then-anonymous group Founder's (me) initial posts :icon-rolleyes:

The other 3 group activists are cool.

I have the logistical skills and foresight to drive the group forward, or I wouldn't have bloody started the group would I =;
