This game looks pretty Damn interesting.
Basically there’s four main Factions(Empires) that you can fight for, but at it’s root is basically"do what you want."
It has a free market economy, you can create your own corporations and alliances, be a Mercenary or start a Pirate fleet.
You can declare war on other corporations/alliances and claim their assets if you win.
