A concept . . . please comment

There is no such “thing” as cold
Heat is a “thing”
but cold is the absence of heat.

There is no such “thing” as darkness
Light is a “thing”
but darkness is the absence of light.

There is no such “thing” as death
Life is a “thing”
but death is just the absence of life.

without contraries there can be no progression - william blake.
dualisms. i vs thou. yet without one there cannot be the other. hence both must exists or subsist at the same time and we as thinking beings relate them to each other.
the concepts subsist and we merely link them as opposed to a man made contrary.

Actually. Energy is quantifiable. How much energy there is in relation to our body temperatures is how most measure hot and cold.

Photons are a quanitifable thing. How many photons that are present is directly related to whether we consider something light or dark.

Capability of function through the order of organic molecules is quantifiable. Whether something is considered alive or dead, depends greatly on this order. Now obliteration. That would be the opposite of existence.

Summarisable as:

There is no such “thing” as nothing (which is tautological).
Energy/matter are things.
Nothing is the absence of energy/matter.
