ilovephilosophy.com enlargement

Ben clearly this website is yours and all decisions must be made by you. However I feel that we can all play a part in spreading the word about this glorious site. I suggest a brainstorming session here to work out how to get more members. The current number is great but with more people, the discussion is more varied and the site inevitably becomes better.

I suggest we have a recommend a friend type thing. Someone could produce an email (I wouldn’t know how) advertising the site, or Ben could add a promo page to the site. Then we could type in friends’ email addresses and it would be sent to them and before we know it we’d have twice as many users. Who else has got any ideas???

oh there’s a fairly big change coming soon which should help… but that’s not ready for public consumption quite yet

taps nose

I could always post around on a few newsgroups, (but this would lead to discordians, anarchists, and drugged up hippies taking over)

Alex, first you batter butter into the ground using jawaad quotes and then you appropriate his ideas.

And he was talking to Ben. At 13:48 on the Israel post, Alex kicks butter’s butt to the kerb.

Then, amazingly, at 14:03, he posts this thread:

Looks to me like Al is a smooth criminal. Sorry to be vindictive, but I have to stick up for Butter.

He’s beginning to see how the whole Arab-Israeli thing arose.

i preferred the intellectual ninja jawaad to the camp socialist butterfly.

As regards to the post, I think it’s a great idea, I’m all for making the site bigger I just need ideas and feedback from you guys. Let’s get this topic rolling…

don’t bother going to university next year. expand this site as a network philosophy department. and the ppe bois need not worry, as the site will produce more cutting thesis’ challenging the assumptions of the phil. elite, gaining ascendancy, earning a 5* rae, and growing so great with the lse as a mere minnow. the end to the analytic stronghold starts here . . . . . . or maybe not. i dunno, more search engines. a quota on american members. a subsidy for the irish. forums for different languages, maybe? with an advanced translator for us dumb monolinguists. european/russian influx. could be interesting. word of mouth? lobbying the house of commons? a ‘crunchie’ aeroplane, with an ‘i love philosophy dot com’ banner. at summer. children with icecreams would register. a kiddies forum maybe?, devoted to the cavernous study of nietzsche and schopenhauer. an ‘americans forum’ where the meaning of life is seriously contemplated? the options are endless.
jawaad is not butterfly. confirm.
butterfly, if you want to change your name, you can purchase dorian gray off me, with the terms discussed in private messages. but you must maintain that dorian gray is always young. sustain his youth. he never ever dies forever alive never ever dying always forever living.

find all available domain names with a ‘philosophy’ ‘debate’ link. buy them up. divert them here. pay for it with advertising. that would trigger off another big debate itself.
set yourself up as a new parliament. maybe the struggling youth parliaments of europe could strut their stuff here. rrrrrrrrrr. eyp could run between sessions. they were lookng into that anyway. the eyp webpage would divert towards the offical mid-session european youth parliament forum on this very site. britain back in the middle. hussar. rule brittania. vote bnp.

i think my first course of action will be to cut down on 80% of all the grating sarcasm and facetiousness on the board.

deletes Pangloss

there we go.

read, think, then criticise.
believe it or not, some of those ideas were absolutely real. i’m ambitious. a will to power spiralling out of control.
please take that back, ben. i’m not one of those annoying professional cynics. i’m hurt, and genuinely sorry if i offended anyone. i never ever ever mean to offend. even if i am thinking long-term!

mundane babble. so what do you expect? respect? an exocet threat? f***, i’m going out, seemingly to get a life. and find my sanity.

ok, well when you send me the money for the crunchie aeroplane I’ll take it back.

seriously though, i’m not offended just that I would like to hear some realistic ideas for the website and veering off topic at this point might put people off giving real ideas which aren’t “vote bnp” or “don’t goto university”.

fair enough.

ANY MORE IDEAS, PEOPLE . . .

Butterfly chill my peace-loving friend. You raised the point. Of course that then triggered off this post. However we have been talking about it for days. On top of that I wasn’t trying to claim any credit for the idea of brainstorming enlargement suggestions seeing as it’s quite clear that you wrote that down first (how petty is this!!) But anyway instead of highlighting the fact that I said “I suggest,” the emphasis in the statement should be “here.” I just wanted people to discuss ideas and you hadn’t sent a new post about it to encourage that so I thought I would.

Butterfly is dead. I must apologise for all the trouble he caused and the rubbish he talked (which should be disregarded). Sorry.

About expansion: Ben, have you considered joining The Philosophy Webring? All you have to do is link to the ring on your site. And in theory you ought to get a significant number of referrals from other sites in the ring. It might be worth investigating; try doing a search on google or check out the following link:

It’s pretty simple to sign up, but I’ll leave the decision to you. I would guess that most users of the Phil. webring are American…how would this affect the pol/econ forum? It could enrich it or it could lead to an unhelpful polarisation…lots to consider, but potentially a crowd-puller.

Also, I can’t change my username back to plain jawaad. Can you help?

I don’t have anything constructive to say… I’m just enjoying the innuendo of this topic bame

I only just discovered this site (amongst others) over the past 24 hours, after running a political/philosophical website & forum for some time now. One thing that I always tried to avoid was stealing members from other forums - it’s vicious and helps no-one. But mutual relationship such as the webring posted above are usually a good idea and I’d be happy to promote ilovephilosophy.com on ixyl, or would be happy for ben to do it himself if he likes.

In any case, hello everyone, look forward to melting minds with you soon.
