Fear & Marvel

“For Plato says: When the philosopher contemplates such things, he cannot avoid bringing it into manifestation (μιμεῖσθαι), and adapting himself to it, through his conduct. For there is no way to prevent a person from bringing that with which he marvelingly interacts into manifestation in himself and his life.” (Picht, Nietzsche, page 234, my translation.)" - Sowilo

To this wisdom, Fixed Cross added the following comment, nodding his head and stroking his beard

One either does this with marvel, or with fear. In this way man is divided into two species. Fear tries to lead, marvel doesn’t (it is already where it wants to be) yet if it were the other way, fear would diminish vastly and the world would appear as marvelous as it is.

Children marvel , adults fear.

Children dont fear?
Adults dont marvel?

Is your home planet in this solar system?

Children fear when taught, very little natural fear is left in us. Children tend to marvel at fire, odd and different. A child will smile and hug a stranger.
It is the youth and adults that teach fear because they learned fear. Adults do marvel only after cautious examination.

Ive never not marveled, its the first thing I do when I wake up. And none of my friends ever ceased.

There is no philosophy or life even without it.

Not sure of the context of this but I will point out that, usually, this is a higher-tier thinking, after all the basic needs are met. It’s incompatible with any goals because it is a goal in itself. If you were to wake up to a grumbling stomach or intense physical pain, the marvel thing would probably not cross your mind because you’d have a goal as priority (to relieve discomfort or pain). Same if you were in a life and death situation - you don’t think just how awesome it is that you may die in any minute - only after the fact you may appreciate just how lucky you were. Of course there are exceptions, like the adrenaline junkies, who jump rooftops, or climb skyscrapers without safety equipment, or run across the tracks in front of the moving train, or any one putting themselves in jeopardizing situtation only for the thrill/novelty of it.
But my main concern with it is its paralyzing factor. It may be satisfying to the mind, but it also removes ambition/striving. Why do anything if everything is already fine, not matter what is happening at the moment? It’s this mentality, when taken to extreme, that can really incapacitate a person, in relation to a reality that founded in struggle and competition.

I think that you cant speak in universals like that. I would certainly not stop marveling, Id marvel the hell out of where the pain came from and what I was going to do about it. It is only because we imagine the beauties of origin and solutions that we escape pain, and deny fear more than its portion, which is only blind drive to change the situation. It can not lead, it has no mind or heart.

I ain’t afraid of shit.

I have enjoyed marvelling at my fear a few times. Twice the adrenaline rush. Realms of the surreal.

Good, because if you were afraid of shit I would be worried about you.

He’s actually bullshitting you Kriswest.

He’s actually afraid of losing all that money he’s accumulated over many years through that casino which calls itself the stock market. He’s just trying to put on an effective poker face within this thread.

Everyone fears something even though we might not admit it… I was just glad he was not afraid of shit, that takes special help.

I am batman

Oh man I just realized Batman isnt even Marvel.
