_Glimpses of Beulah_ (song lyrics 1995-2000).

[b]“Shipwrecked Sailor” [1995]

O shipwrecked sailor above the ocean depths,
Your secret memories shall forever be kept:
Though a distant red island impassions your heart,
The increasing fatigue makes surviving an art…

O ardent errant riding lonesome back home,
You’re suddenly joined by an acquaintance from Rome
Who tells you straightforward that you are his goal–
Of course far too crude for your sensitive soul!

O pious poet at the fountain of bliss,
You seem to foresee where your destiny is…
Without you, your muse would wear dripping wet clothes,
So why are you blue? Just present her your rose!

“Endlessly” [1996]

Let go of every prejudice
And all of your restrictions!
Let us lament how sad it is
To follow false convictions…

Uplift your body in your soul
To realms high above us!
Come taste the airy alcohol
Excelling earthy offers…

Now we’ll discuss the universe
And our temporal presence!
We’ll learn of our gloomy curse
The all-explaining essence…

Then we can finally unite
Our energy and reason!
And you will love the day you tried
To end all lies or treason…

“Naked Tree” [1996]

Naked tree, come follow me,
Over land and over sea:
We’ll retrieve your golden leaves,
End your greatest grief and set you free!
(Come follow me…)

Let us go where rivers flow,
And where wholesome people grow;
Where the sky is not so high,
So that you and I don’t feel that low!
(Where rivers flow…)

We shall gain our own domain,
Where we’ll live without restraint;
We can kiss eternal bliss,
And we’ll never miss the realm of pain!
(Our own domain…)

[We can hide within the night,
If there still be certain frights;
Certain aughts or certain naughts,
Even when we thought our fears had died!
(Within the night…)]

In the end, we’ll sail the strand:
Waves of golden desert sand;
Travel far beyond the stars,
Way beneath the particles of sand.
(Which means the end. Yeah-ah…)

“Fear” [1996-97]

Dionysus’ lioness broke the nightly silence near the waterfall!
Dionysus’ lioness was the hottest muse of them all,
So unspeakable…

I’m a free comedian in the dark theater of maturity!
I am a true chameleon, I can mirror colors no one else can see:

Wings of dragonflies;
Natural-neon coral night;
Sweet monsoon thru eyes
Of crystallized delight;

Sun & moon in unison, melting into fusion with my eye-ball;
Psychedelic unison, luminous illusions, almost musical,
So unspeakably in tune…

Fly!
Fiery flowers shine,
Falling, flaming, from the sky!

Ancient poem prophecy led me to believe the Apocalypse is near…
Acid dream-poetry will hit the trip’s eclipse after a tour of fear.
A tour of fear…

The shadowy glow must go down now!
Hounds of Hell surround me.
Sneering demons dwell at the core of my mind…

Without but one tear,
I bid you farewell,
For one thing is clear:
I’ll see you in Hell!

Dark women sing.
They cheer, and cling to my existence.
Brilliant night…

“Enclose Your Eyes” [1997]

Showers of light shine divine on her bower,
Dividing her shrine from the dark that is mine.
Crystalline princess, entrancing my senses,
Your sheen has the power of wine.

When I rose to enclose your eyes,
Stared thru the gates of Paradise,
At creations ne’er made for demise or generation,
We knew Beulah was beautiful, Beulah was beautiful,
Renaissance and regeneration!

I won’t harm your alarmed surprise,
Stunned in the shades and paralyzed;
Inspiration there may marry my imagination,
And show Beulah is beautiful, Beulah is beautiful,
The realm of hallucinations…

Showers of light shine divine on her bower,
Dividing her shrine from the dark that is mine.
Crystalline princess, entrancing my senses,
Your sheen has the power of wine.
Your sheen has the power of wine.
Your sheen
has the power
of wine…

“O Zoitsa” [pronounced “Zoeetsa”; 1997]

O Zoitsa,
I glance at the truth of your sight;
A glimpse of your eternal light.
The desert–I’m blinded.
Red sand–I am blinded.
O dark setting sun,
(You’ll be down so soon;)
Look up at the sky,
Let us die now…

Mona Lisa,
You show me a mystery smile.
I know who you wish to beguile:
My heart–I am spellbound.
Our hands–we are well bound.
Oasis of Greece,
Let us rest in peace.
Oh no that’s a lie,
Let us die now…

Ooooo Zoeeeeeetsaaaaaaa!

I shatter your dreams
I love my creation
You hate me!
Ain’t that what you wanted?
I want it!
And this is the truth:
I love my creation;
I want it!
Fuck all those who hate me.
They want it!
There’s no one to save me.
I’m Jesus!
I’m Jesus!
I’m Jesus!..

O Zoitsa,
I’ve glanced at your side of the truth;
One glimpse of your eternal youth.
So stunningly striking,
Thru thunder I’m light’ning…

O fiery sun,
You will dawn real soon;
You’re dying to shine,
Yet let’s lie
down
for now…

“The Sound Inside” [1997]

When you were young & still without a doubt,
And wildly sang your songs aloud,
The stars above would fling their marvel down
To wallow in the sound.

And if you saw a falling star,
You’d wish it were to fall in love!

You lived between the lines,
With strange arrangements in your mind.
You loved to laugh with danger in your eyes,
And leave me mesmerized.

You left me to find me.
You left me to find the sound inside.

When you were young, and, still without a doubt,
You wildly sang your songs out loud,
The stars above would rain their marvel down
To wallow in the sound.

And if you saw a falling star,
You’d wish it were to fall in love!

The glimpses of the moon
Would wing the angels in your tune.
You’d sing your song with Nature as your muse,
And leave us all confused.

See you soon, my singular girl.
I give you my word.
You’ll live in my world, I give you my word.
I give you my word.

“My Golden War” [1998]

The golden ball fills us all with energy.
The golden ball rules the world with anarchy!
The golden ball ain’t got no goal nor reason to exist.
It’s caused us all to call on gods to keep it as it is…

My golden war will fill us all with energy.
My golden war will rule the world with anarchy!
My golden war ain’t got no goal nor reason to be fought.
It can’t be lost, it can’t be won; it must be overcome…

My golden ball rolls on to all eternity.
My golden ball rolls on and on until returned to me!
My golden ball will fulfill its destiny…

A sun is born to fill us all with energy.
A sun is born to rule the world in panarchy!
A sun is born to give us all a meaning to exist.
But most of all to make us whole and bring us happiness…

“Natural High” [1999]

Who am I, who live in the clouds on a mountain,
To cry o’er the fate of our natural surroundings?
I am blind to the rise and decline of nations:
'Tis just like the perennial change of the seasons…

It is I, I’m the guy who lives high on a cloud in the mountains!
I would like to say hi to a girl that I like like the flowers I find on my mountain…

So who am I, who sing like a fountain in winter,
To die for the myriads of flowers in springtime?
I don’t mind the course or the speed of nature;
Stream of life will eventually run to the ocean…

It is I, I’m the guy who lives high on a cloud in the mountains!
I would like to say hi to a girl that I like like the flowers I find on my mountain…

On a natural high, I see birds fly by…
On a natural high, I hear angels cry…
On a natural high, see me take to the sky!
On a natural high, on a natural high…

(On a natural high,) Who lives in the clouds on a mountain
(On a natural high,) for the sake of our natural surroundings?
(On a natural high,) Who sings like a fountain in winter
(On a natural high,) for the myriads of flowers in springtime?

Oh hello, it is me, I’m the one up a tree in the garden!
It is time for me to say goodbye, I’ll see you among the stars that I light in the darkness…

On a natural high, I see birds fly by…
On a natural high, I hear angels cry…
On a natural high, see me take to the sky!
On a natural high, on a natural high…

“Stream of Dew” [tune 1999, text 2001]

In tune with the moon,
In tune with the new,
In tune with this soothing stream of dew,
In sync with the crew,
In sync with the few,
In sync with that fired marine that we hired,
I found a solution from all this confusion,
I vowed to elude these preposterous illusions,
These pompous intrusions in so pure a nuisance.
Remove the pollution that poisons your ocean today,
Or you’ll die…

I saw quite a lot;
I said what I thought;
I sang and I wept things angels kept;
I knew I was hot,
But cool, I thank not;
I flew through the steam of the team you were brewing!
I breathe in the fumes of so many balloons,
That I almost assume there’s so many blue moons;
And I swear it is true, I am love within you,
So improve the solution that sweetens your oysters today,
Or tonight…[/b]

Thanks for posting this.

“Fear” is still undiluted in its power, in fact it has grown stronger. But I recognize more in other songs too, now. There truly is something prophetic to most of them.

Very nice seeing this all together.

I second that emotion, as well, a lyrical ode to hidden sources of the Soul.

Gad to see other poets here appreciate this as well.
You should have heard him sing. The melodies to some of these things are very strong.
But its been nearly twenty years since the sang them.

Great stuff.

Lightning hot?

Reminded of this bit from TSZ: “On the soft sward of your hearts, my friends!—on your love, would she [lioness wisdom] fain couch her dearest one!”

Jakob also wrote something on here I think to the effect of the “pink mist” preceding the lightning.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate your appreciation.

Well, since I sang them in public. In solitude, I have come back to them now and then.

The first good melody I wrote was that “Showers of light” stanza, which was originally the prelude to a different song (the rest of which wasn’t up to par). From then on the melodies and rhythms were even more important to me than the texts (with the exception of “My Golden War”, which I decided to include here at the last moment).

I remember singing O Zoetza loud on the Prinsengracht once, and a lady on the other side of the canal applauding me.
Of Fear I wrote parts on the walls of the barracks in my kibbutz.
