Epic poem

I wrote this poem for my admission at University of Chicago (Uchicago). Unfortunately, I didn’t get it but the poem is good even after this tragic story. Hope you all enjoy it.

UCHICAGO: a short epic
Two baby brothers floated across the cosmos
Ambling, crawling, and rejoicing over leaving Mt. Olympus
They danced with stars, played with comets,
And helped growing civilizations to bust out myths.
Hand in hand, they sought the mysteries of the world,
Until finally, they reached our tiny home Earth.
These brothers were Truth and Fire,
When separated, they led to consequences dire!
They were sons of the mighty Zeus,
Being tested by him, and put to use.
While traveling across the cosmos, they were enticed
By the flawless beauty of mother Earth, and they decide
To beg for stay in her womb, and leave
As soon as they have maturity received.
So on Earth did these brothers stay,
And with Freedom, Trust and Wisdom play
Games of all types and length, and charmed
Everyone with their holy brotherly bond.
For long did they stay together and foster
What in history was the strongest bond between brothers.
Neither tough times nor envious eyes could fracture
This holy divine bond between the brothers.
Soon the brothers came to age,
And deeply feel in love with their inmates,
Truth sought hand of the wise Wisdom,
And Fire couldn’t resist sweet Freedom.
But like Devil’s mercy, their happiness was short lived,
For with passing time, a deadly brotherly bond intensified.
These brothers were wicked and named Greed and Desire,
And with false means, they set the holy brotherly bond on fire.
Truth punched Fire, and Fire Truth
And they both left with a missing tooth.
So altered was this bond between brothers
That they never wanted to meet each other
Fire with his wife Freedom went west,
And among the Prairies did he rest.
Truth with his wife Wisdom eloped east,
And among the Himalayas did he feast.
And so turned the wicked wheel of fate,
So fractiously that it would subsequently eradicate faith,
And until some mysterious magical force of the cosmos
United the brothers and rubbed up their sorrows,
No man, woman or child could happily live its life
And the world would be forever entangled in a web of strife.
Separated and departed, the brothers continued with their lives,
Sketching kingdoms, building boundaries, and taking care of their wives
Around the Ganges, did Truth his kingdom erect,
And to self discoveries did he his attention direct.
His greatest creation was the art of meditation,
And later, his wife bore him the pride of his nation.
Intellect, so they called him, a fine boy with strong arms,
And Truth tried his best to keep him away from harm.
And so aged Truth, away from youth, into his old age,
Away, away, away from his brother’s sweet old rage
Around the Hudson did Fire his kingdom erect,
And to physical discoveries did he his energy direct.
His greatest creations, among others, were Democracy, Economics, and Sciences,
And with hard work, did he with Nature seek several alliances.
His baby boy soon was born, and christened Courage,
And for his better upbringing, fire gave up his rage.
And so went the lives of the brothers, oblivious to each other,
Failing to realize that without their unity, the world was deprived of its purity.
Outside the brother’s stony palaces, the world was shook by a storm of indignation,
Corruption, hypocrisy, simony, heresy, and utter discrimination
But like the darkest night before sun rise
The human sufferings were soon to end.
Their troubles had set stage for the Divine intervention,
And it was time for the gods to step forward and bring salvation
Back on Mt. Olympus, Zeus with wife Hera, presided over the Divine throne,
Witnessing how his negligence had affected the strong and the prone.
Then, without much thought, he stood up and summoned his brothers,
Sisters, Sons, daughters, and his loyal followers,
To join him around in a Divine Council and help his Divinity
To bring justice to his sons, and to the inhabitants of his Holy Trinity
On Gods’ wish, Hermes, the messenger of the Gods, was sent
To enter earthly realms, and search for Greed and Desire on his descent.
And so came Hermes face to face with the evil brothers,
And gracefully relayed Gods’ will without shaming them any further.
Greed and Desire appeared in front of the Divine Council, and feared
Of having already angered the Gods, and saw their future with uncertainties smeared.
The Gods had mercy on Greed and Desire, and they sentenced the brothers,
To eternally infect the minds of the lowly humans who care not about each other,
And of those who fail to realize Gods’ will behind their every action.
Thus on Earthly realms was happiness revived and peace sanctioned.
With gloomy clouds dissipated, the brothers once again embraced each other,
So tightly so as to spew the years of separation out from the heart of the other.
And so like a Holy miracle, the brothers united their kingdoms, and in Hyde Park,
Gave birth to UChicago, their bright beacon of light in this world of dark
Tis here at UChicago where the golden morning lark sings and awakes my masters,
And where professors and students alike conduct rituals to please the holy crafters.
Tis only here where Intellect and Courage, the holy sons,
With plays and games strengthen their nascent brotherly bond,
And tis only here where Freedom and wisdom, the Holy wives,
Merrily sing and talk, and proclaim forth their jolly strives.
Tis only here where in duties during the day, the woes of the nights are forgotten,
And even a mortal soul, with the blessings of my masters, doth continues to live forever.
Tis for these reasons that I want to study at UChicago, ‘cause for me,
There is no service greater than the service to my sweet lord, Truth and Fire.
